  1. The word “fairness” does not belong anywhere in the description of the proposed redistricting bill! I also don’t consider 2030 as temporary. Everyone west of Northern Virginia and Richmond needs to know that this is an attempt to cancel your vote. Page County is not part of Fairfax or Prince William Counties. They are stealing our votes.

  2. Frankly, I hope this passes. If anyone needs less of a say in the federal government, it’s Page County. To quote Marx, there seems to be an epidemic of “rural idiocy,” as we have seen time and time again, people in Page County will vote against their own interests, so long as they believe someone they don’t like (gay people, Black people, women, immigrants) gets hurt in the process. Of course, it doesn’t have to be this way, but we will continue to see our social programs defunded and our town abandoned by the younger generations until we can see beyond our own noses for a change. Maybe the people who keep promising to destroy Medicaid, defund SNAP/EBT, cut social spending, and abolish Social Security actually mean it, and they don’t really care for the rural poor worker at all. Personally, I am very excited to vote “Yes!”

  3. VOTE NO TO THE REDISTRICITING!! GIVES DEMOCRATS A 10-1 ADVANTAGE! Now, it’s 5-6, and that is more FAIR!

  4. This is yet another example of the ‘eye for an eye’ politics tearing America up. Texas started this redistricting at the direction of President Trump. GOP led Missouri and North Carolina soon followed. Dems in California and now Virginia retaliated. Who benefits? The forces of chaos and the out of control party politics are advanced. Those few lunatics who would have us hate our neighbors because they vote differently certainly win. The rest of us – we sit and wonder when grownups will regain control over our nation again

  5. LuRes “Personally, I am very excited to vote “Yes!”. I would imagine you are while angrily clutching your book on Marx and spouting everyone that doesn’t think like you is either a rural idiot or a racist. That is just sad. Or maybe thinking that checking for fraud in Government programs is somehow destroying them. Fortunately we still have the right to vote and I will choose No. I also don’t think the other states are doing it is a very good argument, which to me is similar to the “All the other kids are doing it, why can’t I”.
    Either way, Bless your heart.

    • This is a prime example of what Marx means by “rural idiocy.” It isn’t saying that you, or anyone that you know, is a stupid individual, or somehow less of a human. What it is saying is that, due to their class position and the physical geography of rural society, people living in rural areas are more likely to be atomized and individualistic. Their neighbors are further away, they have fewer concrete social connections, and they feel excluded/separate from society as a whole. They are also more likely to be poor and undereducated, something that again is not their fault but the fault of capitalism at large. Because of this, people in rural areas are more likely to believe the ruling class (capitalist, not specifically Republican or Democrat) propaganda. Despite welfare fraud being an almost complete non-issue across the country, those who own capital want you to be against it so they can retain more capital. They scapegoat the other, the “welfare queen,” the “Somali fraud,” the “illegal immigrant.” All of these convince rural populations to accept and justify actions that directly harm them. “Illegal immigrants are getting food stamps!” leads to the rural poor who rely on them supporting more restrictions. “Somali’s are abusing child welfare programs!” again leads to the same outcome, poor people voting to spite the very benefits that their neighbors rely on. Racism IS rampant in Page County, and it is an effective means of social control. There is a reason LBJ said, “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” It is not an insult to you, or the rural people as a whole, rather an acknowledgement that rural people, by basis of their way of life, are placed into a position where they are effectively unable to fight for their class interests, opting to align with the capitalist class with a false belief that one day, if they work hard enough, they could be a billionaire too. Think of the redistricting more like self-defence, as an action being taken to ensure that sweeping “reforms” that will ruin our communities can’t be passed (as easily, Democrats are still beholden to capitalism at the end of the day). Hope this helps. I recommend reading the Communist Manifesto; it is incredibly short and can provide a cursory, if outdated, look into what Marxism means. It isn’t as scary as you think.

  6. “Luray Resident”. I see you are a troll effort from the Communist Party USA that has fanned out across all Virginia counties. We also know that the democrats want to align with the Islamists for votes and that the Islamists want to align with the democrats because they’ve come out saying that that’s the best and fastest way to replace the US Government.

    • Funny thing about conspiracy theories — they’re always about the people with the least power. The folks with real power prefer you stay distracted. The threat to affordable housing in Page County has attorneys , LLCs, and quarterly earnings reports — not a political ideology cooked up to keep you looking the wrong way.
