Captain promoted to Chief following Dean’s retirement
By Randy Arrington
STANLEY, March 11 — After interviewing three candidates and going into closed session on Wednesday night, the Stanley Council voted, 3-2, to promote Captain Rebecca Jenkins to become the first female police chief in Page County. Chief Jenkins takes over for Ryan “Beaver” Dean, who held the post for a decade and retired at the end of February.
Councilman Joseph Mauck made the motion in favor of Jenkins, which was seconded by Councilman Doug Purdham and supported by Vice Mayor Bruce Stoneberger. Council members Jeremiah Knight and Robin Caracofe voted against the motion, favoring Officer Chris Stoneberger, who also applied for the position. The third applicant hailed from Gloucester County, Virignia.
Chief Jenkins, who held the longest tenue with the Stanley Police Department at five years, according to Town Manager Terry Pettit, will begin her new role immediately at an annual salary of “about $70,000.”

$70,000 Seriously!?
sounds like alot to me…but I don’t live in town so my opinion doesn’t matter.
according to what has been paid to former chiefs of police of Stanley. Cecil Brubaker who was never chief, but by far the best officer during a turbulent time in Stanley’s hey days…70,000 is more than Cecil made the entire time he was an officer. The town is calm now compared to back then, however drugs are the main problem in Stanley and the page county sheriff’s department have made the majority of the drug arrests. As a concerned citizen that has grandchildren in Stanley elementary school Id like to see the Stanley Police department police the area for drug activity.
Give that woman more money.
Rebecca Jenkins, I’m sending my most sincere congratulations and best wishes. I believe we met once by accident in front of the Stanley municipal building. I welcome openness and honesty to this community. Let me know what I can do to help.
A big “booo” to the two council members who voted against this appointment. ON Basic optics alone, if there are three “Yes” votes, then go ahead and vote yes, always good to be unified behind a candidate. And there’s nothing in her background that should send a red flag to warrant a no vote….
Wait, so your argument is to go along with the crowd just for the ridiculous reason of being “unified?” A true democrat huh?j
Yeah Barry! It is the politics here that baffle me, except to say that no change is EVER wanted, or there really is a need for some changes.
