Lois was the heart of her home and family. She leaves a legacy of laughter, love, dedication and motherhood that touched the lives of everyone she met.
Lois raised six children, Gwen Miller (Bill), Jennifer Gray, Jacki Bywaters (Tresa), Monica Kidd (Steve), Michael Bywaters (Charlotte), and Jason Bywaters (companion Jenn Wallace); along with 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Melody McConnell; and a brother, Ronnie Stoneberger.
Lois was a mom, “Maw,” to more than just her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a true heart and soul for children, was called on by many for advice, and had arms that could “sooth” any little one.
Lois was born on May 27, 1942, in Page County and was the daughter of the late Carroll Stillwell Sr. and Dollie and Armond Stoneberger.
On September 28, 1961, Lois married her lifelong partner and soul mate, Roy C. Bywaters, who preceded her in death. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey of unconditional love, trials, and unwavering devotion. Their bond was a testament to the power of true love, resilience and partnership.
Lois was a lifelong member of the Stanley Seventh-day Adventist Church. She worked in nursing for many years, and later helped as a caregiver to her extended families and many others.
Lois was destined to live a life of love, laughter and bluegrass. She was driven by an endless love and commitment for her family, bluegrass music and the Lord. Throughout her life, she was passionate about helping with children, cooking, lending a hand to any and all, offering medical advice, and enjoying any bluegrass festival within 100 miles. She approached every challenge with remarkable courage and instilled in her family the values of kindness, resilience, family-first and hard work. To know her was to love her and be loved by her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Lois was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carroll Stillwell Jr., Ricky C. Stoneberger and Carroll David Stillwell; a grandson, U.S. Army PFC Daniel D. Gray; and two great-grandsons, Cason Brown and Everette Southers.
While her journey was not an easy one, the family takes comfort in knowing Lois is at peace, free from struggles and failing health.
Visitation is planned from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at the Stanley Seventh-day Adventist Church. The family will receive extended family and friends at Lois’s home,154 Stoneberger Drive in Stanley, any evening.
