Sharon Lee Sampsell died peacefully on May 24, 2026 at Winchester Medical Center. Originally a native of Luray, Virginia she has been for the past eight years, a resident of the Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville, Virginia. She bravely fought dementia during that time. 

     Born on her mother’s birthday, in Luray, Virginia on April 6, 1954. She was the daughter of Robert Louis Sampsell and Thelma Waters Sampsell of Luray. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brothers Jimmy Campbell, Wayne Campbell and sister Maxine Mathews. 

     She was the mother of two daughters, Ashlee Grimsley and Leah Scarborough and son, Seth Scarborough. She loved her many grandchildren. 

     In addition to her children and grandchildren she is survived by her brother, Robert L. Sampsell, II and his wife Serra of Charles Town, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Dawn Campbell of Luray, Virginia; as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

     Sharon was a 1972 graduate of Luray High School. In her youth she was active in the Page County 4-H Horse and Pony Club. She often showed her horse with her brother Robbie at local fairs and horse shows. In school she excelled in band where she played first clarinet in the high school band. 

Following high school, she was employed at several businesses in the area including Wrangler, Coors, and Delaware North. Her proudest achievement in her work life was her employment in Page County, Virginia Parks and Recreation. There she created and facilitated Page County’s outstanding “Quest for the Stars” talent search. This was a very popular event for several years running. 

     She loved the outdoors, crafting and hosting family get togethers. She was always doing things for others. 

     She cared for her mother and father during their final illnesses. She was devoted to her children, and her community. She was a kind and loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, a wonderful human being and friend. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by all who knew her. She fought her illness courageously during her final years and passed peacefully with her brother and his wife by her side at 11:43 a.m. 

     In lieu of flowers Sharon asked that each of you keep your loved one close and live life to its fullest. 

     An “In Remembrance of Sharon” gathering will be held in the near future.

Arrangements are being handled by the Enders & Shirley Funeral Home in Stephens City, Va.
